---|---|---|---|
Site BoardsEach player gets their own set of site boards and all of the site boards are double sided (giving players numerous ways to setup and play the game). |
TokensThere are five sets of tokens that players can collect: Four sets correspond to the site boards and one set gives players an extra benefit on a later turn. These benefits give the game layers of strategy. |
The ManualLearning how to play Imhotep: The Duel is easy with the 8 page full-color manual. The illustrated manual provides detailed instructions for game play and includes examples of potential scenarios. |
Game AttributesPlayer interaction is very high in Imhotep: The Duel because every choice you make affects the other player. You can try to anticipate the other player's moves by strategically placing your pieces, but there is still a little luck in what tiles are revealed. |

---|---|---|---|
Place One MeepleOn a turn, players can choose 1 of 3 actions. Option 1, players may take one of their meeples from their repository and place it on an unoccupied harbor space. |
Unload One BoatOption 2, players may unload one boat that is moored at the end of a row or column. This is how you acquire tiles that are then placed on your site boards. |
Play One Action TokenOption 3, play one action token. Action tokens give a player an extra benefit on their turn. Players can use these tokens to take additional actions, modify the layout of the game, or pick one token directly off a boat. |
End of Game ScoringEach player adds up the points they have earned on each of their site boards. The player with the most points wins. |

Personally, I love the uniqueness of the mechanics.
BUT! It's fairly mean spirited without much way to avoid it. Call it a big conflict. The main culprit is that anyone can move any boat. In this game you can literally force another player to spend up to 4 turns setting something up and denying them any additional points by directing a boat to a non-optimal location. And that's pretty mean. I've played games where there's natural interference, or that one time you have to do something so you get another turn, but in this game, the confrontation is in every turn.
Overall, the components are nice, visually it looks good, and mechanically it's very interesting. But I don't like the spirit. It's going in the "for sale" bin soon.
The length of the game is on the shorter side, but not so short that it goes by in a flash. And, just like it's predecessor, there are a number of variations that can be introduced should you tire of the same old game. The boards flip over to reveal "B" sides that play very differently than the "A" sides.
I'm happy to have this game as an addition to my collection and it does not take up much room!
This game felt very shallow to me. It has a very tic-tak-toe style feel to it. I do not know if that was the intention, but there wasn’t much under the surface after that. You select your tiles, and place them in the appropriate areas, and score them based on what you have. Blocking and forcing your opponent to “offload” is the only major aspect of this game. I’m a big fan of more heavy games, so this one will not be making it to the table very often. Not a bad game, just not for me.

El juego es muy recomendable para aquellos que gustan de mecánica de recursos y posición de trabajadores.
Tiene su buen nivel de estrategia y eso permite buena rejubalidad
Plenty of colourful, well-made playing pieces. It comes in a good-sized box and is very portable. It doesn't require a large playing surface, so would make a good game to take on holiday.
We found we needed to think quite hard before making a move... do I make a move that improves my Empire... or do I make a move that spoils my opponent's chances?!
The multi-scoring system is very good, so you can't be sure who has won until the final scores are added up!
With double-sided home boards to increase the variety and strategy of play, we are looking forward to playing this game many, many more times!
